New York, July 16, 2020 – Sutton Place Strategies (SPS) sponsored a webinar on July 15th titled, Deal Sourcing Tactics and Opportunities in a Shifting M&A Market, moderated by David Toll of Private Equity Career Week.

CEO of SPS, Nadim Malik, spoke at the webinar joined by speakers David Clark of Raymond James, Scott Erickson of Aurora Capital, and Jeremy Knox of Schroder Adveq as they discussed the current market and ways they are positioning their firms for unprecedented times ahead.

Malik discussed the current state of the M&A market, referencing historical data surrounding deals sourced and deals closed as published recently by AltAssets in the annual Science of Deal Sourcing article. He then quantified the impact of Covid-19 on M&A deal making in the first half of 2020, noting that overall deal activity was down 27% YoY to private equity buyers, and the median number of deals sourced in the second quarter by private equity firms was down over 50%. Juxtaposing that deal activity data against historical post-recessionary deal activity has led to a situation where there is pent up demand for quality businesses, but the number of distressed opportunities may mute a broad rise in valuations.

With tools such as the ability to mine pipeline data for stale & broken processes, target secondary buy out and carve out opportunities, identify turnaround-focused sell-side advisors, and the recently launched Conference Evaluator; SPS gives Business Development professionals the tools they need to position their firms for long-term success.
