New York, December 1, 2017 – Sutton Place Strategies’ Nadim Malik joined Nicholas Donato of Navatar for its webinar entitled How to ‘Moneyball’ Your Private Equity Deal Sourcing. The session took place on Thursday, November 30, 2017 and lasted for 45 minutes.
The conversation discussed the evolution of private equity deal sourcing, the current state of the M&A market, as well as overall private equity market coverage statistics. Malik discussed four key tips for improving deal sourcing for private equity professionals:
- Focusing on intermediaries that run more limited process (SPS Sell-Side Process Index)
- Reaching out to new deal sources in a timely manner
- Bringing your deal pipeline to life for broken deals
- Understanding the closing rate of your intermediaries
According to Malik, a big concern for private equity firms is where valuations are at the moment, “…[valuations} seem to be at the high end of the historical cycle – and people have been saying that for a couple of years – but, that really puts pressure on private equity firms to deploy capital in an efficient manner that will meet the hurdle rates of their investors.” Per Malik, incorporating the four key tips into a PE firm’s deal sourcing process will help to increase market coverage of relevant deals, and ultimately drive better fund performance. Private Equity firms can use data to ‘Moneyball’ their deal sourcing process.
It was an engaging conversation between Donato and Malik, and there were great questions posed by the audience. A replay of the webinar can be found here.
